After days of dust and dawn game drives, there is nothing quite like stepping off a small plane onto Zanzibar. The safari's adrenaline gives way to warm turquoise water, powder-white beaches and the slow rhythm of the coast.

Stone Town

The island's heart is a UNESCO-listed maze of Arab, Indian, African and European history — carved doors, spice markets, and the scent of cloves. A guided wander through its lanes is the perfect first afternoon.

Beyond the beach

Snorkel the reefs, sail a traditional dhow at sunset, or tour a working spice farm. Or do nothing at all — a hammock, a book and the sound of the Indian Ocean is a legitimate itinerary.

Adding it on

Three or four nights in Zanzibar is the classic way to end a Tanzania safari. We arrange the fly-in transfers and the right stretch of coast for you — quiet and barefoot, or lively and social.
