There is a particular silence to a hot-air balloon at sunrise over the Serengeti — broken only by the burner's occasional roar and, far below, the waking sounds of the plains. It is, for many guests, the single most memorable hour of their journey.
What the morning looks like
You'll rise in the dark and drive to the launch site as the sky turns from ink to rose. Inflation takes twenty minutes of theatre; then, gently, the ground falls away. For an hour you drift with the wind, low over elephants and giraffe, high over the endless golden grass, watching shadows stretch across the herds.
The landing tradition
Balloon safaris end with a full bush breakfast laid out under an acacia — linen, coffee and a champagne toast in the middle of the wilderness. It's a ritual older than most of the camps, and worth every early alarm.
When to add it
Balloon flights run in the Serengeti and, seasonally, the Mara. They're best added on a dry-season morning when the light is clean. We build them into your itinerary as an add-on — just ask when you plan.
